Sussex County FA
Youth Cup Sunday 17th
September 2006 VALIANT HASSOCKS UNLUCKY AT
LEWES Lewes 2-1 Hassocks
The
Robins went out of the County Cup at the first
hurdle on Sunday at the Dripping Pan against a
very accomplished Lewes side containing players
most of whom had been released by professional
clubs.
Hassocks
went out with a game plan designed to contain
and frustrate the fast flowing Lewes style of
football and although the Rooks had the majority
of the possession they found the Young Robins
difficult to break down.
Lewes
however did take the lead after 22 minutes with
a fine move along their left flank which saw the
ball whipped into the Hassocks penalty area and
side footed into the Hassocks goal.
Most
of the Hassocks chances were as a result of
counter attacks and the Robins went close when
Matt Amos tested the Lewes keeper with a
stinging shot from 25 yards.
The
second half started with Lewes dominating
possession without producing a goal but
increased their lead midway through the
half.
Within
5 minutes Hassocks with their best move of the
match, reduced the deficient with a fine goal
from Nathan Miles.
Going
into the final phase of the game the young
Robins tired, but can be proud of their
performance against a very good Lewes side who
will take some stopping in this competition.
