October 2006 YOUNG ROBINS RUE MISSED CHANCES Peacehaven
& Telscombe 1-1 Hassocks
With
their previous weeks fixture being cancelled
Robins took a little time to settle and adjust
to match conditions.
Once
they had aclimatised they began to take control
of the match, restricting the home team to a few
long range efforts.
Creating
far more scoring opportunities than Peacehaven
should have meant a healthy half time advantage
for the Robins but the teams went in all square
at 0-0.
A
well taken goal just after the break from Laurence
Robinson after collecting a flick on from fellow
striker Matt Amos and netting from just inside
the penalty area, gave the Robins the
edge.
The
second half was much the same as the first with
Peacehaven providing very little threat and
Robins strikers Robinson and Amos missing easy
chances to put the match in no doubt.
Defending
a 1-0 lead is always a difficult situation and
so it proved when in the 54th minute a
speculative shot from outside the Robins penalty
area ended up in the back of the net to bring
the game level.
This
was the first time in the match that Peacehaven
had managed a shot on target. With 10 minutes to
go Hassocks introduced sub Nathan Miles who then
promptly found the Peacehaven net, but the goal
was disallowed on a linesman's flag for alleged
shirt pulling.
In the end Hassocks
paid the penalty for not converting their
earlier opportunities into goals and had to
settle for a point instead of the three that
their possession and domination should have yielded.
