Last
year champions came to the Beacon on a
Monday night and were very happy to
go away with three points after some clumsy
defending cost Hassocks the
game.
Within
two minutes Old Varndenians went ahead when
a cross cum shot went into the top corner.
Hassocks responded well and Robbie Kitchen
scored with a delightful chip to bring the
scores level.
Hillwood
and Williams then tormented Old Vs down
the wings and Hassocks dominated
possession but could not managed
another goal.
A
mad 5 minutes then followed as Old Vs
scored twice just before half time to give
them a 3-1 lead.
In the second half Hassocks had a right
go at the Old Vs and just battered the
Old V goal. They got their second when fine wing
play from Jamie Hillwood saw him past two
defenders and cross for Kitchen to head
home.
The
introduction of Miles and Rose then caused
further problems for Old Vs but with
Hassocks keeper Gander a mere spectator
they could not just get the equalising
goal.
Old Vs tried to adopt time wasting
tactics but the referee has his 'Alex
Ferguson watch on' and twelve minutes injury time was
played. Unfortunately this was not enough
to get an equalising goal.
Old
Vs were delighted with the three points and
Hassocks although disappointed to throw
away the game was pleased with the overall
performance which included seven youth team
players
