A
great victory for Hassocks and their first
at Victoria Park for some time. With 4 drop
outs in the 24 hours before the game
Hassocks knew it would be difficult.
In
addition a couple of players had decided to
go on holiday and this meant Scott
McCarthy had to travel from Cheltenham to
play in goal for Hassocks.
Although
not match fit, Scott had a great game which
ensured our good defensive record continued.
However, its not often you see a goalkeeper
suffer from cramp with only 50 minutes
played!
Wisdoms
probably felt they deserved a point but
although they edged it on possession, the
number of good chances created by both teams
were probably the same and whereas Nathan
Miles took his chances well, Wisdoms were
denied by great goalkeeping and defending
and poor finishing.
Hassocks
were 1-0 up at half time when a low cross
from the right was pulled back and Miles
from the edge of the area finished with
class. The closest Wisdoms came to drawing
level was from a unchallenged header
from a corner which just cleared the
bar.
And
it was another free header early in the 2nd
half that saw Wisdoms equalise after
Hassocks failed to clear their lines and
gave away a corner.
Hassocks
winner came from a break down the left hand
slide when Jamie Hillwood was able to attack
Wisdoms right back and pulled the ball back
to Miles who scored his second with
ease.
Wisdoms
immediately came back and McCarthy pulled
off a great save to keep the visitors in the
lead.
Wisdoms
continued to push and although there was the
odd frantic moment another break saw Miles
have a great chance for his hat trick but
the Wisdoms keeper pulled off a decent save
with just 5 minutes to go.
