LAST
MINUTE WINNER SENDS ROBINS HOME POINTLESS
Jarvis
Brook 3-2 Hassocks
Having managed one game
in December, one game in January this one game in
February ended once again in a 3-2 defeat. This
was very disappointing since we equalised in the
92 minute before going down to a 94th minute
winner.
The game was delayed
by 30 minutes due to the late arrival of the
referee but once we started we were impressively
tight against a team chasing for the league
title.
With Ollie Bowles
returning from another winter break, the
experience of Spiesy and the return of young
'John' Franks we were tight at the back and
although we didn't dominate the play, we did
manage to go 1-0 up when Kevin Garrett on his
debut, scored with a great strike just inside
the Jarvis Brook penalty area.
Hassocks looked as if
they would carry this lead into the 2nd half
when 2 basic mistakes saw Jarvis Brook equalise.
When we lost possession a long range speculative
effort managed to end up in the net (1-1).
In the second half,
Jarvis Brook took the game to Hassocks and
created 2 excellent chances prior to taking the
lead when poor marking from a throw in let in
the unmarked forward to score.
Although Jarvis Brook
continued to make chances, Hassocks looked
dangerous on the break and from one move the
'ever dangerous' Logan Newington broke free and
we suddenly had four against one.
In training this would
be a goal every time but in a game situation,
its never so easy. When Andy Burt received the
ball, his normal lethal left foot was not so
lethal as his shot went wide!
Jarvis Brook tried to
get a third, but found Scott McCarthy in superb
form during this second half which earned him a
standing ovation from home supporters at the end
of the game and a combination
of excellent saves and the goal frame kept the
score at 2-1 until the 92nd minute.
Tom Green long throw
was headed on by Steve Spies to Robbie Kitchen
who headed home! A point look secured but once
again poor defending, saw us caught in
possession on the edge of our own area.
The resultant cross
was smashed home to give Jarvis Brook a 3-2 win.
On chances created Jarvis Brook deserved their
win, but the Hassocks team were very
disappointed having got an equaliser and then
conceding so late on!
