Mid Sussex
Football League Premier Division Saturday
16th September 2006 TROWER STRIKE EARNS
ROBINS POINT Cuckfield 1-1 Hassocks
Dave
John's shooting practice session at training
last Tuesday certainly helped, as a powerful
strike by Paul Trower just a few minutes from
the end of this game secured Hassocks 3rds there
first point of the season.
With
8 changes since the previous game and resources
severely stretched this was always going to be a
hard battle on a very bumpy pitch which did not
encourage too much passing.
With
a mixture of 'old' and 'youth' in the team, we
saw both Tom Green and Dan Goodrum making their
debuts for Hassocks 3rds.
Both
teams decided early on, to be direct and this
brought about numerous half chances for both
sides.
Cuckfield
took the lead mid way through the 1st half when
a long ball caught Jacquesy out and the right
midfielder was able to go and score with
ease.
Unfortunately
Webby had already been taken out at this stage
with a nasty tackle and this soon meant he had
to leave the pitch well before the end.
After
half time, Hassocks spent most of the time in
the Cuckfield half trying to get on level
terms.
Although
there were no clear cut chances, there were a
number of balls hit into the box which led to a
number of goal mouth scrambles but Cuckfield
seem to manage to clear and be content with a
number counter attacks but this was thwarted by
the excellence of Simmo at the back.
Finally
the equaliser came when it looked like Hassocks
were going to come away with nothing. Another
ball into the box was cleared and Paul Trower on
his left foot smashed the clearance into the top
of the net.
1-1
was probably the right score and certainly there
was a number of positive points taken for
forthcoming fixtures.
Dress
code update - Are flip flops the right footwear
to come to soccer? Simmo, Jacquesy and Webber
all wearing cheep and nasty flip flops - these
are banned for next meet!
