Having
lost to the same opponents one year ago in
the same round of this cup, we knew that
we were in for a tough afternoon and
although we reflected on a disappointing
first half performance we fully deserved
victory.
Hassocks
started brightly and veteran Robbie
Kitchen found space and crossed from the
right and Jamie Hillwood at the far post
rifled his left foot shot home.
This
should have led to further goals as we
then dominated and missed a couple of good
chances.
This
spurred on our opponents who then started
to cause us some problems with their
Christmas tree' formation and a equaliser
soon followed.
Unfortunately
it all started from a Hassocks corner and
a quick break out saw us conceded our
first
goal of the season.
The
second half Hassocks dominated and chances
galore were missed and the Wivelsfield
Green goalkeeper pulled off some fine
saves as Hassocks kept pressing.
By
not being able to take advantage Hassocks
nearly lost the game twice in the last ten
minutes as a couple of defensive mistakes
saw Wivelsfield Green have great chances
which they failed to convert.
The
1st period of extra time saw Hassocks
again pushing and they were rewarded with
two goals. Having missed so many chances it
was no surprise that our second goal was a
own goal as a defender was unable to
control his clearance from a Hassocks left
wing cross.
2-1
soon became 3-1 as Hassocks good passing
saw them create a clear chance for Phil
Eldret which he took. Hassocks now face
Lindfield in the next round.
