This
is the third game in a row against East
Grinstead United which has finished 0-0 and to
be fair a draw was probably the right result
as both defences dominated
The
Hassocks side featured only one player
above the age of 20 and had nine players from
our successful youth team with three making
their debuts.
After
conceding seven last week, the defence was not
changed and this time they put in a good
performance to deny a much livelier EG team
than we previously saw at the Beacon in
September.
In the first half EG hit the bar from a long
range speculative effort and our own Alex
Ternouth had a great opportunity to score
with a free header but somehow managed to
head wide.
The
second half saw EG have more possession but
they rarely threaten the goal and on the few
occasions they got close Jason Gander and
his defence coped admirably!
In
the last 15 minutes Spies (aged 20+) was
pushed forward and he nearly broke the
deadlock with a right foot volley that just
went over the bar.
In
the final minute Pat Rose also had a chance
to get the winner but his shot just outside
the area cleared the bar.
This
was not a great game but with only two league
matches being played on Saturday this single
point returned Hassocks to the top
of the league on goal difference.
Next
game is now home on Saturday v Maresfield
2pm ko.
