ROBINS
FINALLY TAKE POINT OFF OLD V'S
Hassocks
1-1 Old Varndeanians
This was the
first time Hassocks have got a league point
versus Old Vs in 4 seasons in the Mid Sussex
Premier in a pulsating game at the Beacon.
Hassocks made a
few changes with Chris Hewitt getting a much
need run out, Brendan Leahy continuing his
return from injury, Chris Deare back from his
world travels and the return of Kieran
O'Callaghan to the club - on paper we looked
strong but potentially lacking in fitness.
It was one of the
youngsters who scored Hassocks goal. A free kick
crossed in by Mike Demario was not cleared
properly and it found Logan Newington on the
edge of the area. He neatly chipped the ball
into the Old Vs goal from 20 yards - a great
finish.
Hassocks
continued to play well without creating much and
Old Vs started to get back into the game.
They seemed to
have weathered the storm but some sloppy
defending saw Old Vs equalise just 10 seconds
from the end of the first half. In the 2nd half,
Old Vs continued to press and although they
created a couple of good chances they never look
totally in control.
As the game
entered into its final stages Hassocks started
to create a few chances and with a bit of good
fortune may have won the game.
It ended 1-1 and
it was an important point for Hassocks in the
new revised league tables which have been
created due to the huge fixture backlog as a
result of the wet winter weather.
