HASSOCKS
HELD BY STUBBORN BORO
Hassocks
1-1 Crowborough Athletic
Hassocks
were held by the Crows in an exciting
fast paced game. Hassocks got off to
another great start when the pace of Dan
Jacques got on to the end of of a through
ball and he rounded the keeper only to be
hacked down by him, no punishment for
the keeper in what was a "goal
scoring chance".
Up
stepped Lee Cooke to place the penalty with
ease for 1-0 and four in five for the
striker. Hassocks continued their good start and
after some great wide play from Dicky Fernley,
Cooke snatched one well wide when he
should of scored.
Cooke
had to be replaced soon after due to
injury, which gave a debut to Laurence Robinson (Crouchy).
Graham Beveridge again should of done
better with a header at the far post
following another quality delivery from
Fernley.
Then
Boro came into the game with a blend of
youth and experience that caused the Hassocks
defence real problems and got the goal
they deserved with a great turn and
shot.
Crowborough
then carried on their spell of dominance when again
an uncharacteristic Hassocks defence
were caught napping and the Boro forward
missed what can only be described as a
sitter.
Half
time came at the right time for Hassocks
and probably the wrong time for Boro.
The new management team of Phil Wickwar and
Mickey Jewell had a sort out and there
words took affect with Ian Church and
Andy Wilson
getting to grips with midfield and the
defence back to there normal ways.
As
the half went, on Hassocks pushed their
opponents back and had some chances to
win the game. Jacques looked to have the
ball over the line for a goal only for it not to be given
and then had one cleared off the line
which wasn't in
Crouchy
got one under his feet but the keeper
did well before Church hit the post, again Beveridge should have done better with a
shot, and when the pacey Jacques ran
through on goal and was again hauled to the
ground a yellow was produced when on
another day a red would have come out.
Fernley
knocked in great corners all night, but
a dogged Boro team stood strong and held
on for a point, which in fairness they
probably deserved. Hassocks remain
unbeaten and with players still to come
in need to keep the start they have had
going.
