RESERVES
DEFEAT HAWKS
Whitehawk
0-1 Hassocks
Kevin
Keegan once said: "'You can't do
better than go away from home and get a
draw". On a chilled November
evening at East Brighton Park, Hassocks
Reserves threw this analogy out of the
water with a 1-0 win over a strong
Whitehawk side.
The
scoreline should have reflected Hassocks
dominance in this arena of gladiators,
yet they were guilty of missing several
clear-cut chances on an eventful night
Despite
Whitehawk having a strong side out, it
was Hassocks who dominated the contest.
Jack Simpson in goal had not a save to
make, and the cleanliness of his kit
would certainly have pleased his
mother.
Michael
Bates grabbed the only goal of the game
as Hassocks played up the infamous Mount
Whitehawk in the first half, while Logan
Newington was unlucky not to score when
his effort hit the bar.
Chris
Brown continued his return to fitness by
receiving a yellow card for informing
the match official that he should have
gone to Specsavers, and Dan Jacques
received the same fate for a tackle that
is expected to be shown on a future
edition of Crimewatch.
Hassocks
continued to press, and Jacques,
Newington and Robinson all missed
chances that were rumored to leave the
crowd muttering "even Owen John,
Scott McCarthy or Sam Franks could have
scored that"
At
the end of the day, the visitors walked
off deserved winners, and special thanks
must go to the traveling army of
Robin-ites who made the trip, including
last seasons reserve cup-winning captain
Brian Husbands, who nearly becoming
involved in a fracas in the stand.
Not
even this moment of controversy could
take the shine off of another three
points for Hassocks |
