ROBINS
AVOID UPSET IN INTERMEDIATE CUP
Hassocks
3-1 Adur Athletic
Hassocks
produced a lacklustre performance to see
off Adur Athletic from the Worthing and
District league in the Intermediate
cup.
Hassocks
started slowly and didn't really get
into their stride all afternoon against
their hard working opponents. The
defence were off their game in the first
half but Dan Jacques was his normal busy
self up top.
The Robins
only real move of the half let Jacques
in on the left and his finish was quite
exquisite as he passed the ball into the
far top corner. At the other end 15 year
old Jack Simpson in goal made a fine save
from a free kick.
The Hassocks
defence were caught in a
big way when three of them failed to mark
the only Adur striker in the box and he
calmly placed his finish past Simpson. The
enigmatic Jacques chased a through ball
and to his credit gambled and when the
keeper and centre back hesitated he was
left with a tap in to make it 2-1 at
half time.
Mickey Jewell
and Phil Wickwar tried to inspire their poor
team at the break and saw a slight
improvement with passing and endeavour
but it was one of those days as Hassocks
never looked in any trouble and seemed
quite content to see the game out.
The
third goal game from good work from Ian Dawson
on the left to leave John Thompson with a easy goal
from eight yards. Mike Goulden replaced
Nathan Harvey
and after Mark Darbs broke down in the
warm up Danny Miles was on hand to play
15 minutes up top replacing Jacques. It was
The Gatemans first bit of football since
he scored the winner against Lewes over
two season ago, a great return for
him.
The Robins
played out the game and the players of Adur were a credit to there club
but
Hassocks will need to improve in up and
coming weeks. Please all ask Nathan
Harvey about who we played!
