HASSOCKS
TRIUMPH IN LOCAL DERBY
St
Francis Rangers
0-3
Hassocks
An
under strength Hassocks team played
their local rivals in a great cup game.
Hassocks were again without six players due to
injury and unavailability and expected and received a
tough game from Rangers who play one
division below the Robins.
A
blatant push gave Hassocks a great start
resulting in former Rangers man Lee Cooke
notching from the spot with aplomb.
The home
side
got into the game but didn't really
trouble Hassocks defence with Ian Simpson,
Martin
Woods and Alex Ternouth having solid displays
and with the
oldest of the back three being just 21, they showed
great resolve./
Ian Dawson
in midfield was his usual industrial self and
and bursting run from midfield allowed
him to volley a beauty in from a full 30
yards (what a great knock from
someone) .
After
half time Rangers tried to rough up
Hassocks with some physical tactics but
the Robins were unfazed.
In
a piece of tactical brilliance, Steve Spies
was introduced and soon finished the
game off with a typical Spies goal after
great work from Cooke and Dicky Fernley.
With
the "banana skin" avoided
Hassocks now travel to Newhaven in the
next round of the cup
