The
Robins rounded off their season and the Dave
John era with a narrow 1-0 defeat against a
slick and powerful Redhill outfit. Despite
being pinned back for long periods, Hassocks
had enough good chances to have come out of
the game with a point and will have been
disappointed not to have come away with at
least that.
Redhill
had some tricky and pacy players, none more
so than winger Tyrone Sealey who tormented
Hassocks all night, without actually
producing that killer moment. Time and again
they created openings but there crosses were
easily cleared by a resolute Robins defence
which held firm until 10 minutes from time
when they could do nothing about substitute
Chris Hubbard’s 25 yard thunderbolt which
flew past the impressive Joel Harding.
Harding
had made some fine saves, denying Kyle
Morgan, Marcus Eliiott and Sealey in the
first half hour and relieved that
Elliott’s effort went wide following a
poor back header by Dan Jacques. However,
Hassocks arguably had the best chance of the
half, Anthony Hibbert’s pass played in
Nathan Miles who’s exquisite lob easily
beat Chris May but agonisingly bounced back
off the inside of the post and into the
grateful arms of the Redhill keeper.
Early
in the 2nd period, the young
Robins striker had 2 more great opportunites,
firstly latching onto an excellent pass from
Richard Thompson and then pouncing on good
work by Daley Clark and Hibbert but on both
occasions he was denied by May. Phil Gault
blazed over, whilst at the other end Calvin
Headley did likewise. It was end to end
stuff on a difficult, bobbly surface, the
bounce of the ball foiling most players.
Sealey went on a mazy run but Harding saved
well with his knee and Miles was again in
the clear after Arni kublickas has nodded on
Harding’s huge clearance but his wonderful
strike was superbly tipped over by
May.
Harding
made another brilliant parry low down from
Elliott and the same player headed wide
before sub Hubbard broke the deadlock with
ten minutes remaining after Hassocks had
cleared yet another cross. Despite pushing
forward, the Robins couldn’t force an
equaliser and Johnsy’s reign ended in a
defeat
