ROBINS
EASE TO EMPHATIC HOME WIN
Hassocks
4-1 Pagham
Hassocks
earned a much needed win with a comfortable 4-1
success over Pagham. Goals from Stuart Faith,
Phil Gault, Anthony Hibbert and Neil Kane eased
Hassocks home much to the relief of the Robins
supporters who had previously witnessed tough
encounters with Whitehawk and Redhill.
Hibbert
returned after missing the midweek draw with
Redhill, whilst Daley Clark occupied the central
midfield role vacated by a suspended Terry
Gacias and Gault replaced James Laing up front,
although in the 2nd period Gault
dropped back into midfield to replace the
injured Spencer Slaughter.
With
such entertainment in the previous 2 home games,
the first 20 minutes was drab in comparison,
although Kane fired into the side netting from
an acute angle when the better option was
possibly squaring for an unmarked Gault. The
lively Michael Frangou had a shot deflected over
and Ian Simpson denied Brett Forden with an
excellent tackle before Hassocks took the lead
on 23 minutes, Faith heading in unmarked
following an acrobatic hook back from the
byeline by Kane after Simpson had headed across
goal. A minute later Gault raced through
unmarked to calmly tuck home number 2 and double
the advantage. On 35 minutes it was 3-0 with a
superb volley on the run from Hibbert, who
latched onto a superb centre by Dan Jacques
after he had been released by Gault.
That
should have been game over but from the kick off
the Robins switched off allowing Forden to
stroll through and calmly slot past Joel
Harding. Gault volleyed straight at Wes Hallett
before the interval and Slaughter shot wide.
Frangou
forced Harding into a save low down to his left
just after the break, whilst Hassocks extended
their lead on 59 minutes, Kane superbly
volleying home with his back to goal after Faith
had set up Gault’s knock down. Slaughter and
Kane both limped off shortly afterwards and in
jury time Harding tipped over a James
Misselbrook effort and Gault somehow contrived
to fire over from 8 yards with the goal at his
mercy from Laing’s cross.
Hassocks:
Harding, Jacques, Marsh, I Simpson, Faith (Bowra
72), Kublickas; Clark, Slaughter (Laing 61),

Starman
– solid defensive display from Hassocks but
Phil Gault stood out
